American Airlines said on December 13 that Devon May would take over from David Kerr as chief financial officer after "a long-planned succession process".
May, the airline's senior vice president of finance and investor relations, will report to chief executive Robert Isom when he starts his new job on January 1.
May has big shoes to fill, going by Isom's tribute to Kerr, who he labelled as "the best CFO in the history of the aviation industry".
Kerr is to stay on as vice chair, president of American Eagle and strategic advisor, with a focus on AA's regional and cargo operations.
