Allegiant flight attendants vote to approve new contract
Allegiant Air flight attendants, represented by the Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) AFL0CIO Local 577, have voted to approve a new five-year agreement with immediate wage increases (ranging from 20% to 41.2%). More than 1,700 Allegiant flight attendants are represented by the union, of which 97% voted. The agreement was ratified with a 89% approval vote. On top of pay increases, the contract also includes ‘many other enhancements such as improved pay overrides,’ notes the airline. These include an increased amount of time personnel are paid for being on duty, a cap on healthcare cost share increases, and a minimum $1500 lump sump bonus (or bonus of around $1,013 per year of service, whichever is greater). The latest contract builds upon a previous collective bargaining agreement which became amenable on December 21 2022. Allegiant adds that it was able to secure the new contract with the TWU ‘in just over a year and a half of bargaining by building on [both parties’] strong positive working relationship’. The TWU added that the “increases in this five-year deal are testament to the TWU Local 577 negotiating team’s efforts”. TWU International executive vice president Alex Garcia described the agreement as “a game-changer for Allegiant Flight Attendants” and one what “sets a new standard for the Flight Attendants at other low-cost carriers like Spirit and Frontier”.
