Alaska Airlines expands cargo business post merger with Hawaiian

Alaska Airlines' board of directors has elected Ian Morgan as the new vice president of cargo.

Morgan will lead the day-to-day cargo operations and the nearly 600 employees at Alaska Air Cargo. He will also be responsible for managing the continued growth of the business - operated by both Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines following the recent merger.

In addition, Jason Berry was made an executive vice president at Alaska parent company Alaska Air Group, while also maintaining his role as president of Horizon Air - Alaska's regional airline subsidiary. Berry will provide enterprise oversight of the cargo business.

"We couldn’t be more thrilled about this next chapter for Alaska Air Cargo," said Alaska Air group president and CEO Ben Minicucci. "With these leaders, we’re well positioned for unlimited future success as we grow and expand our cargo operations to deliver for everyone who depends on us."

The airline had also experienced a "significant IT outage" on Sunday [September 22] evening, it said on X, formerly Twitter. "This was not a cyberattack or any kind of unauthorized activity. It was a certificate issue that impacted multiple systems."

The company said it had fixed the unspecified technical issue by around 10pm local time, though it expected some impact to occur the following day. It said it is "working quickly" to resolve the issue and advised passengers to check their flights for potential delays.
