Akasa Air plans for a large aircraft order by year-end

Within six months of launch of commercial operations, Akasa Air is already planning for a large order towards the end of the year, reports Mint.

The airline started operations with just two aircraft in its fleet in August 2022 and within last six months the airline has expanded its network to 14 domestic destinations and received 17 Boeing 7373 MAX aircraft.

Akasa Air has 72 aircraft pending from its previous order, while there is some time before the airline receives those aircraft, CEO Vinay Dube has revealed that by the end of this year, the airline will place an order that will give them the line-of-sight to 2030-plus. He went on to say that the new order will be much larger than the current order.

The airline received five Boeing 737 MAX from Avolon in the last few weeks and plans to start international flights once it has 20 planes in its fleet.

Most of Akasa’s current fleet is on lease with 55 more aircraft to come, over the next four years. The airline has received one aircraft every two weeks and plans to have 18 aircraft by the end of this month.

Speaking to Mint, Dube further added: “You cannot start an airline with 500 aircraft, so we were cautious. We wanted to grow in a measured manner. The next aircraft order is going to be larger because we can handle higher growth levels beyond 2027. We are looking at just narrow-body aircraft.”
