Airlines suspend Israel flights after security escalations in Lebanon

Major airlines have suspended Israel flights amid growing security concerns in the Middle East.

Brussels Airlines - a part of the Lufthansa Group - said in a statement: "Due to the recent change in the security situation, Brussels Airlines and the entire Lufthansa Group have decided to suspend all flights to and from Tel Aviv (TLV) and Tehran (IKA) with immediate effect."

The airline said the suspension will last up to and including September 19, 2024.

Lufthansa Group said it is monitoring the situation and will assess it further in the coming days.

Israel outlets reported that Air France also suspended flights from Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Tel Aviv as well as Beirut, Lebanon, up to and including September 19, 2024. Air France had previously suspended flights to both regions as tensions had mounted. The airline said it would monitor the situation "daily".

It comes as thousands of pager devices used by political party Hezbollah exploded in Lebanon on September 17, 2024. Lebanon outlet naharnet reported that around 2,800 were injured from the blasts and 12 people were killed, including two children.
