New China Dragon Finalizes Initial Conversions with PEMCO
11th October 2012
The latest data from FlightAware.com shows that US carriers cancelled 2,866 flights yesterday (Monday) in preparation for the storm. For today (Tuesday), airlines have cancelled 4,615 flights, about 15% of all daily airlines flights in the United States. Virtually all flights to/from New York (LGA/EWR/JFK), Philadelphia, and Boston are cancelled today.
Although snow on the ground in New York City was not as significant as forecast, the mass transit needs to become operating so that airport and airline employees can get to the airport, then airlines need to resume flights to the affected airports before they can begin departures from the Northeast. FlightAware.com expects the recovery to be well underway tomorrow morning, with early morning departure from the Northeast cancelled but things returning to normal as flights begin arriving in the Northeast from elsewhere.
For tomorrow (Wednesday), airlines have only cancelled 379 flights, but we expect that number to rise slightly once airlines can gauge how long the recovery effort will take.
The three day cancellation total is 7,860, said FlightAware.com.
