Aircraft shortages leads to Scoot suspending services

Aircraft shortages has led to Scoot, the low-cost arm of Singapore Airlines, to suspend services to four cities in its network.

All operated by the airline’s A320, the cities affected are Lucknow in India, Kalibo in the Philippines, the Maldivian city of Male and China's Quanzhou.

Scoot flies from Singapore to Lucknow, Kalibo and Quanzhou on a thrice-weekly basis, while the Singapore to Male route is served four times a week.

The last flight to Lucknow and Kalibo will depart on 29 and 30 June, respectively. Meanwhile, flights to Quanzhou will end on 24 August with Male set to end on 25 October.

Scoot has explained that aircraft shortage arose after Singapore's SilkAir changed its plans to hand over 14 737-800 aircraft during the 2019-2020 financial year. This plan came in response to the worldwide grounding of the Boeing 737 Max, following the March 10 fatal crash of an Ethiopian Airlines flight.
