Airbus delivers over 70 commercial aircraft in July
Airbus has delivered 77 commercial aircraft in July 2024 - the highest yet for the year. In addition, it is the highest July deliveries since 2018 where the European aircraft manufacturer delivered an equal 77 aircraft. The deliveries were made to 40 customers. Its total deliveries to date reached 400 commercial aircraft to 70 customers. The OEM had delivered 65 commercial jets in July last year and 46 in both July 2022 and 2023. The deliveries for the month consisted of 58 A320neo family aircraft, bringing the total to 319 for the year. 179 deliveries for the year so far were the A321neo, while 138 belonged to the A320neo aircraft. The two A319neo deliveries for the year were both made in July. It also delivered five A330-900s during the month. Gross orders for the month reached 59, bringing the total to 367 net orders. Airbus recorded 19 order cancellations year-to-date. The orders for the month consisted of 15 A321neo aircraft to an undisclosed customer on July 3. In addition, it recorded the firm orders made during this year's Farnborough International Airshow. Virgin Atlantic Airways had ordered seven A330-900s, Berniq ordered six A320neos, while Japan Airlines ordered 20 A350-900s and 11 A321neos at the airshow. The orders for the month do not reflect the memorandum of understanding (MoU) commitments made at the event. During the airshow, Saudi Arabia's low-cost carrier flynas signed an MoU for an additional 75 A320neo family aircraft as well as 15 A330neos. Abra Group - the majority investor of both Avianca and Gol - signed an MoU for five A350-900s. In addition, Drukair - Royal Bhutan Airlines had signed an MoU for three A320neo and two A321XLR aircraft. Ahead of the airshow, Airbus had received the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) type certification for the A321XLR aircraft on July 19, 2024. The type certification was for the aircraft powered by CFM LEAP-1A engines. With the certification, the aircraft is set for entry-into-service by the end of summer. Certification for the Pratt & Whitney engine version is expected to come later in the year.
