Wizz Air has taken delivery of its first of 47 A321XLR aircraft. The aircraft is powered by the Pratt & Whitney GTF engine, marking the first delivery of the XLR featuring this engine.
“This aircraft is one of the great results of our two decades long successful cooperation with our key partner, Airbus, that brings a revolution to air travel, enabling us to offer non-stop intercontinental routes at unbeatable prices while maintaining our commitment to efficiency and flying with lower emissions,” said Wizz Air chief corporate officer Owain Jones.
"Wizz Air becomes the first operator for the A321XLR powered by Pratt & Whitney engines," said Airbus chief commercial officer Benoit de Saint Exupery. "This latest generation aircraft will deliver Wizz Air outstanding economic benefits thanks to its range capability - the longest ever of a single aisle aircraft - and its increased payload."
Wizz Air’s A321XLRs have 239 seats in a single class configuration. With the A321XLR joining its fleet, Wizz Air is enhancing its capacity to connect Europe and the Middle East.
Wizz Air is an all Airbus operator with a fleet of over 230 A320 Family aircraft in operation and 295 left to be delivered. The company expects six A321XLR to be delivered in total this year.
The airline confirmed last year its first XLR route will fly from Gatwick to Jeddah from next month. The airline also previously confirmed Milan to Abu Dhabi, as well as London Gatwick to Medina as its other XLR routes.
