Swiss air rescue service Rega has ordered what Airbus said was a "second batch of 12 five-bladed H145 helicopters".
To be operated out of Alpine bases, the 12 H145s will replace Rega's fleet of AW109SP helicopters and mean the rescuers will use 21 of the Airbus choppers by 2026.
“To effectively operate life-saving air rescue services in Switzerland, we understand that the ability to perform optimally at altitude is paramount,” said Bruno Even, chief executive of Airbus Helicopters, citing the H145's feat of landing on South America's highest mountain, Aconcagua, which he said was unmatched by other twin-engined helicopters.
“By selecting the five-bladed H145, we are ensuring that Rega will continue being able to provide its patients with reliable and professional medical assistance by air for the next 15 years,” says Ernst Kohler, chief executive of Rega.
