Airbus claims milestone as it aims to update satellite security system

Airbus announced on December 16 it has reached a "key milestone" in its work to develop its V3 EGNOS, a system "designed to add key security features for the most safety-critical applications such as aircraft navigation and landing".

The work will "provide entirely new services for maritime and land users" and "will improve the performance of [satellite systems] GPS and Galileo", Airbus said. The new V3 EGNOS will "embed sophisticated security protection against cyber-attacks," a key concern for satellite manufacturers and users.

“EGNOS is a key service across Europe that many people have never heard of, but it is essential for so many applications from air traffic control to maritime operations," said François Gaullier, head of telecommunications & navigations systems at Airbus.
