Airbus and TotalEnergies sign SAF partnership
Airbus and global multi-energy company TotalEnergies have signed an agreement to address the challenges of decarbonising aviation through the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Under the partnership, TotalEnergies – which has been supplying SAF for Airbus aircraft deliveries in Toulouse since 2016 – will provide enough SAF for more than half of Airbus’ needs in Europe. The two companies will also initiative a research and development programme ‘aimed at developing 100% sustainable fuels tailored to the design of current and future aircraft,’ alongside studying the impact of SAF on C02 and non-C02 emissions. TotalEnergies has set itself a target of 1.5 million tons of annual SAF production by 2030. “This partnership… demonstrates the willingness of aerospace manufacturers and major energy producers and suppliers to work together to meet this challenge. We are determined to meet our decarbonisation targets,” commented Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus.
