Airbus forecasts its fleet in service to increase to 48,230 by the end of 2043, nearly doubling from its 24,260 aircraft in service at the end of 2023.
The European aircraft manufacturer anticipates deliveries of 42,430 new planes, comprising of 41,490 commercial aircraft.
Demand for widebody aircraft is set to increase by 9% to 8,920 aircraft over the next two decades, including 940 new-built freighters. Single-aisle aircraft, which represents around 80% of total new deliveries, is set to see demand for 33,510 aircraft.
Demand for widebodies was largely driven by double-digit increases in South America and North America.
""We see particularly strong growth in Asia and the Middle East, led particularly by India and China,"" said Bob Lange, head of market analysis and forecasts at Airbus, according to Reuters. ""Domestic China [traffic] will overtake the US.""
