airBaltic opens seasonal base in Gran Canaria

Latvian national carrier airBaltic has launched its first seasonal base in Gran Canaria, one of Spain’s Canary Islands, from where two A220-300 aircraft will serve a total of 10 different routes.

“This is the first seasonal base of airBaltic, as well as the first base outside of the Baltics and Finland,” confirmed Martin Gauss, president and CEO. “By tapping into the strong and growing demand during the winter months between Northern Europe and the Canary Islands, we will also increase our aircraft utilization,” he elaborated.

The base in Gran Canaria will operate two flights a week to Riga in Lativa, Norwegian destinations of Bergen and Oslo-Sandefjord Torp, and Danish cities of Aalborg and Bilund. One scheduled service a week will also serve passengers travelling to Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, and other airports in Denmark and Norway; connecting Gran Canaria to nine new destinations in Northern Europe.
