AirAsia X passenger numbers double in Q4 2023 YoY, 6x increase full year

AirAsia X has seen a significant upturn in passenger numbers with 890,289 passengers carried in the fourth quarter of 2023, up from 336,954 carried in the same period a year prior, marking a 2.6x increase. Capacity also increased 2.6x at 1,088,844 in Q4 2023, up from 427,384 in Q4 2022. Load factor increased from 79% in Q4 2022 to 82% in Q4 2023.

The full year results for the company were also significantly positive, with 2,822,605 passengers carried in 2023 compared to 417,195 in 2022, marking a 6.8x increase. Full year capacity saw a 6.6x increase at 3,550,531 in 2023, compared to 536,491 in 2022. Load factor for the entire year increased by 2% to 80% in 2023.

The company's total fleet size increased from 14 A330 at the end of 2022 to 18 A330 aircraft at the end of 2023.

AirAsia and Asia Aviation's joint venture AirAsia X Thailand also reported passengers increasing to 387,217 in Q4 2023 from 224,535 in Q4 2022 and capacity increasing to 450,979 from 248,677 for the same period. Full year passenger numbers increased from 293,163 in 2022 to 1,330,445 in 2023 and capacity increased from 337,356 to 1,598,085. However, its load factor decreased from 90% in Q4 2022 to 86% in Q4 2023. Its fleet remained at eight A330 aircraft.
