AirAsia inaugurated the newly resumed flight from Hong Kong to Penang on August 10 with a grand opening. The new flight will be operated thrice weekly from the island of Penang making AirAsia the only low-cost airline offering a direct air connection between Hong Kong and Penang.
The inaugural flight carried a passenger load of 96%, and guests were given a warm traditional Malay welcome upon landing. The aircraft was greeted with a water cannon salute.
YB Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang EXCO for tourism and creative economy (PETACE) said: “I heartily commend AirAsia for its continuous efforts in evolving its network to and from Penang to allow for more seamless travel. I look forward to seeing the benefits this new route reaps not only for Penangites but for fellow travelers in North Asia.”
