AirAsia Group has announced that it carried 33.826 million passengers in 2012 – a rise of 13% from the 29.859 million carried during the previous year. The number of seats flown rose 13% also to 42.423 million from 37.505 million.
Malaysia AirAsia, Thai AirAsia and Indonesia AirAsia took delivery of an additional 17 aircraft, increasing the group's total fleet to 113 in the period.
Group CEO Tony Fernandes recently stated: "We have always believed we have a strong investment case and will continue to push the barriers by gaining further access to a wider investor base."
For the immediate future, this means the plans to list the group's Indonesian arm on the Jakarta stock exchange in the third quarter.
"There's no reason we can't see a market cap of $1 billion" at the time of the unit's initial public offering,” Fernandes said.
