AirAsia recently expanded its third direct international route from Sibu to Singapore operating four times a week. Earlier this year, AirAsia launched two back-to-back direct routes connecting Sarawak to Singapore amid popular demand. Both its inaugural Kuching to Singapore and Miri to Singapore flights took off in April 2022. A couple of months back AirAsia resumed operations at Changi Airport’s Terminal 4 and is planning more flights anticipating demand.
Riad Asmat, CEO of AirAsia Malaysia, said: “We are thrilled to announce this new route which we are flying for the first time ever, connecting travelers to two immensely popular destinations where we see strong demand for two-way travel. AirAsia changed the travel landscape two decades ago, connecting Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak with low, affordable fares, making flying a dream come true for many. Twenty-one years later, here we are launching our third international route from Sarawak to Singapore
Going ahead, AirAsia is planning to add more flights from Kuala Lumpur and other main hubs to various destinations across Malaysia and beyond with the upcoming winter holidays and Chinese New Year.
This year, AirAsia has reintroduced flights to India, Cambodia, Vietnam, and many more and the airline has also been gradually increasing its flight capacity to cater to rising demand. However, the recovery path has been a challenging one for AirAsia as most airlines are faced with a global shortage in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility slots to get all their aircraft back into service.
“The festive season is one of our busiest periods and our goal is to enable everyone to be able to fly home to be reunited with their families during this special time. Therefore, we have decided to add extra flights to and from our most popular destinations, enabling everyone to ‘balik kampung’ affordably,” added Asmat.
