Air Serbia announces fare price cuts to shore up demand

Air Serbia, the Balkan nation's flag carrier, has said it will cut fares on around 40 routes in an effort to maintain demand after a successful 2022.

The carrier said it has laid the groundwork for  "a promotional campaign that will last two weeks, during which passengers will be able to purchase tickets to more than 40 destinations in Europe at affordable prices".

"In the period of 23 January to 5 February 2023, one-way tickets can be purchased at the starting price of 39, 49, 59 or 79 euros, for flights operated between 1 February and 1 April 2023," the carrier announced.

Pent-up demand in 2022 saw most carriers recapture ground lost during the two years of travel curbs that governments imposed from March 2022. Citing the impact of inflation on inputs such as fuel, carriers have in the meantime been putting up fares and capitalising on the explosion of demand after restrictions were eased — a demand that was largely sustained despite consumer price inflation indexes soaring across Europe throughout the year.

Some airlines in Europe are hoping to sustain demand in the face of ongoing inflation pressures by dropping fares, with Air Serbia's announcement coming hot on the heels of a similar move by Air Montenegro, another Balkan carrier.
