Air India has applied to launch direct international flights from Chandigarh to Dubai and Bangkok.
"After a detailed assessment, we found that Chandigarh station as one of the most sought after places for starting of flights for these two foreign destinations and that is why we mooted a proposal to the CMD for launching international flights from Chandigarh," said M R Jindal, station manager, Air India, Chandigarh.
The Chandigarh airport is a defence air field although Air India does not anticipate the need to get approval from the Ministry of Defence to begin international operations from the airport. Air India Chandigarh officials have also asked its higher authorities to launch a direct Chandigarh-Mumbai flight.
