Tata-owned Air India has changed its rules for serving alcohol mid-flight after being penalised by the country's regulator over recent incidents of unruly behaviour among passengers.
According to Indian newspaper reports, crew were issued with an advisory saying that "service of alcoholic beverages must be carried out in a reasonable and safe manner".
The guidelines kept the carrier in line with previous practice and were akin to how carriers in other nations handle passengers seeking to buy booze, according to airline statements reported locally, with the advisory described in one case as "a refresher" rather than a new set of rules.
Crew were advised to be "tactful" with passengers who appeared worse for wear, but to deny "one last drink" to anyone deemed to have already had enough.
