Air India set to hire over 1000 pilots

Air India is planning to hire over 1000 pilots to fill up the vacant posts and also to prepare for the large fleet order coming its way. In its latest advertisement the airline has called upon the candidates to join the airline on its growth trajectory and highlights how its fleet will grow by more than 500 planes. The pilots will be hired across its network of fleet, also for Air India Express

“Air India is offering multiple opportunities and accelerated growth across our A320, B777, B787 and B737 fleet for captains and first officers, as well as trainers,” reads the Ad.

This announcement comes at a time when the airline is busy negotiating salary contracts and human resource policies around leaves with its pilots’ associations.

Since last year, Air India has been looking to fill positions for experienced pilots. In June 2022, it sent a letter to around 55 retired pilots with plans to rehire them.

Several senior commanders are reportedly being trained to operate the soon-to-join Airbus A350 aircraft in Air India’s fleet.

In November, amid a shortage of pilots for its 777 fleet which affected several flights to North America, Air India began its search for qualified pilots, including ex-pats, to operate the widebodies. The airline took the services of a placement firm to help find the cockpit crew for its fleet. In December, Air India celebrated the graduation of a batch of 48 pilots who successfully completed their training at the airline's training campus in Hyderabad.
