Air India has completed its preliminary inspection of the locking mechanism on the fuel control switches in all of its 787 aircraft, finding “no issues”, according to a report on July 16 by Indian broadcast news outlet NDTV.
India's aviation regulator issued a directive earlier this week to inspect the fuel control switches by July 21 after a preliminary report into the Air India Flight 171 crash that killed 260 people was published. The report into the crash found the switches had been flipped to cutoff shortly after takeoff.
The carrier carried out checks on its 787s and found no issues, a spokesperson told NDTV.
The Wall Street Journal reported on July 16 that the crash investigation is focussing on the captain's actions during the crash, with cockpit voice recorder date indicating the captain cut the flow of fuel to the engines. The outlet had cited people familiar with US officials' assessment of the data.
The carrier said recently it would begin to gradually restore its flight schedule from August 1, following a brief pause in some operations following the crash.
