The strike at Air France has finally ended after 14 days. The total cost to the airline has been estimated at €300 million. The flag carrier has been forced to alter its plan in relation to the plan to launch a low-cost subsidiary and it has earned the ire of the French media in its alleged inability to communicate the need for restructuring in a tough competitive environment.
Some critics have argued that the strike could have been avoided if Air France management had involved pilots sooner in the restructuring plans and been made aware of the challenges and risks facing the company.
Air France KLM executive chairman Alexandre de Juniac has been both praised for his work in turning around the group but equally he has been criticised for the way he has handled the required changes.
