Pierre-Henri Gourgeon, chief executive of Air France-KLM has announced his decision to postpone the replacement of 13 aircraft of an undisclosed type until 2016 to cut costs. The airline has pledged to reduce its investments by $543 million through 2012. Postponing the aircraft deliveries that were expected in the next two to three years will go some way in curbing those costs.

Gourgeon also stated the airline was in discussions with Airbus and Boeing on possible orders for the A350 and 787 aircraft. He also suggested the carrier was interested in take its 25% stake in Alitalia to a full merger.

“Our strategy is to improve our already excellent relations with Alitalia,” he said.
