A large amount of wreckage from the Air France A330 that crashed into the ocean off Brazil has been found 4 km under water on the ocean floor between Brazil and Africa.
It is hoped that a new search of the site will recover the missing black box recorders that could explain why the Airbus A330 fell from the sky in June 2009. One theory suggests the air speed sensors on the aircraft failed due to iced-up pitot tubes, which is based on a sequence of messages the plane automatically radioed back to base seconds before crashing, indicating that the pilots were being given conflicting air speed messages, and might not have known how fast the plane was flying.
The wreckage has already shown that the oxygen masks had not been deployed in the cabin, which shows it had not lost pressurization before it hit the water, confirming the theory that it broke up on impact, rather than rupturing mid-air.
