Air China plane lands in Siberia due to engine issues, report says

An Air China jet flying to Beijing from London with 265 people onboard had to make an unscheduled landing in Siberia as a result of engines issues, according to a Reuters report, citing Russia's state aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia on August 26, 2025.

The report said the 777 jet landed in Nizhnevartovsk airport in western Siberia.

“While flying from London to Beijing, the crew of an Air China Boeing 777-300 decided to land at an alternate airfield in Russia,” Roasaviatsia said in the report. “The preliminary cause was a malfunction of one of the engines.”

The airline has reportedly sent a reserve aircraft to the airport to carry the 250 passengers and 15 crew onwards to Beijing.
