The Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) and the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) are to merge Air Canada pilots voted to do so on May 1.
Over 90% of the Canadian carrier's pilots voted, 84.2% of them in favour of joining forces with ALPA, the world's biggest such union.
“Air Canada pilots voted overwhelmingly to approve a merger with ALPA, making clear they believe that we are stronger together. With this historic vote, Air Canada pilots have signalled, unequivocally, they want to join the world’s largest pilots union in negotiating strong contracts, establishing better working conditions, and advancing aviation safety," ALPA said in a statement announcing the outcome.
ALPA's board will vote on ratification of the merger on May 17.
