The Air Canada's pilots union has demanded the airline shows its members a ten-year roadmap setting out how a new low-cost subsidiary would operate over the next ten years. The union wants to ensure Air Canada’s pilots are included in any roadmap and that the flag carrier is not overburdened with costs while all the revenues are taken by the new subsidiary.
Capt. Paul Strachan warned that failing to include Canadian pilots would simply mean proceeding with “a Trojan Horse on wages and working conditions, which is really not in anybody's best interests,'' he said.
The low-cost carrier would look artificially profitable if the mainline airline is weighed down with fixed costs while revenues are moved to the new entity, he said in an interview.
