Air Canada has reached a tentative agreement with its pilots. The agreement was reached on September 15, 2024.
The tentative, four-year collective agreement was reached with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). The union represents over 5,200 pilots at Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge.
ALPA said that - if ratified - the agreement will "generate an approximate additional $1.9bn" of value for its pilots over the course of the agreement. The agreement will be received by its voting membership "soon" for review. A majority approval is required for the agreement to be ratified.
"While it has been an exceptionally long road to this agreement, the consistent engagement and unified determination of our pilots have been the catalyst for achieving this contract," said Air Canada ALPA master executive council chair Charlene Hudy. "After several consecutive weeks of intense round-the-clock negotiations, progress was made on several key issues including compensation, retirement, and work rules."
Air Canada read in a statement: "The new agreement recognizes the contributions and professionalism of Air Canada's pilot group, while providing a framework for the future growth of the airline."
Terms of the new agreement are to remain confidential during the voting process, which is expected to be completed over the next month.
The airline had allowed customers to change their flights in preparation for the looming strikes. It said customers can now revert back to their original flights without charges.
