Air Astra launches commercial operations, plans robust regional expansion

Bangladesh’s private airline Air Astra commenced commercial operations with the first flight from Dhaka to Cox Bazar with ATR 72-600 from November 2022. The airline operates daily three flights on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route and twice daily services on the Dhaka-Chittagong route.

Going ahead the airline plans to expand its operations to cover all major regional routes in Bangladesh. The airline currently operated on two ATR 72-600 with plans to add another two by the end of this year. The airline plans to expand its fleet to 10 ATRs by the end of 2023.

Imran Asif, CEO, Air Astra said: “We would like to establish Air Astra as a preferred and reliable airline among travellers through safe operation and flight punctuality. Going ahead we are planning to expand operations to all seven domestic destinations after three months as more new aircraft would be added to its fleet.

Currently, US-Bangla Airlines is providing technical assistance to the new arrival.

Two private airlines the US-Bangla Airlines and Novo Air are operating flights on domestic and international routes alongside the state-owned Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Air Astra’s primary parking station will be the Dhaka airport; however, Sylhet Osmani International Airport has also been kept as an alternative option.
