Air Algerie reveals plans for 15 new jets, firms order for eight B737-9 MAX

Air Algérie signed an order with Boeing for the acquisition of eight B737-9 MAX aircraft to be delivered from 2027.  The airline had made an announcement by posting its official statement on social media that it was planning to acquire 15 new aircraft for its fleet. In addition to the eight Boeing narrow-body aircraft, the procurement announcement also included an order for five Airbus A330-900 and two A350-1000 wide-body aircraft.

The acquisition of these 15 aircraft is part of Air Algérie’s wider plan for fleet renewal and expansion.

The airline also issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) in April 2023 to dry lease 10 aircraft four Airbus A330-200/300s, two A330-900s, two Boeing 737-800s and two Boeing 737-9 MAX for a period of five years.

The leased aircraft are expected to be inducted into the fleet in the short term as they become available.

Air Algérie currently has 56 aircraft in its fleet, including eight A330-200s, 32 Boeing 737s, 15 ATR-72 turboprops and a single L100, the civilian version of the iconic Lockheed C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft.

With the fleet modernization agenda, the airline plans to ramp its capacity on the Africa and Asia routes.
