AirAsia X reports second quarter results

AirAsia X Berhad reported its second quarter results.

Turnover was marginally lower compared to the same period a year prior at RM660.8 million in the quarter. Capacity was up 6%, while passenger traffic also grew 6%. Passenger load factor averaged at 83%, remaining flat from last year.

Net profit soared from RM4.82 million to RM35.22 million. This was boosted by favourable net foreign exhange gain. Net operating profit improved 26% to RM1.38 million, supported by lower fuel prices.

“The group's operations remained profitable even as one aircraft is pending reactivation and fares are softer as the market tries to boost demand taking advantage of the lower fuel price environment in second quarter 2025,” said AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail. “The final aircraft reactivation, originally planned for June 2025, has been deferred to the second half of the year due to the well-documented global MRO backlogs and spare parts shortages.”

AirAsia X Thailand's revenues were RM372.82 million, and operating loss was RM13.2 million in the second quarter. Passenger traffic was down 12% and its seat capacity was also down 5%. AirAsia X Thailand's passenger load factor was 78%. The poorer performance was attributed to weaker tourism to Thailand and safety concerns in the country.
