AFI KLM E&M and Dutch airline Martinair has closed a component and brake support agreement for five years that covers the airline’s seven MD-11F freighter aircraft.
AFI KLM E&M has recently expanded its repair capability on components for this type of aircraft. Through this agreement Martinair can boost the operational performance of its aircraft and rationalise its logistics chain.
Harold Alles, Martinair head of supply and contracts said: “Signing this contract with AFI KLM E&M opens up attractive prospects for synergies with an MRO that also operates MD-11s and which knows the aircraft inside-out. AFI KLM E&M’s ability to offer us an integrated solution to the positioning of a stock of components at Amsterdam was also decisive when it comes to ensuring fleet availability.”
The proximity of the stock of components to Martinair’s Amsterdam operational base will also allow the carrier to significantly reduce its costs relative to supplies of spare parts. Peter de Swert, KLM engineering & maintenance executive vice president, said: “This contract is a genuine cause for satisfaction. By optimizing the use of our capabilities and the available stock, maintenance costs will be substantially reduced.”
