Skytra’s June Airfare Report shows annual high for transatlantic fares
Commenting on the recent increase in ticket prices for transatlantic air travel in June, Elise Weber, Co-Founder of Skytra, an Airbus company, says: “So far this Summer, we have seen the air travel industry struggle to cope with the demand from consumers who want to jet off on their holidays following two years of a global pandemic. Whilst this is the case, our data reveals that last month saw prices hitting record highs for transatlantic travel that have now surpassed even pre-pandemic levels.
“Our data shows that a new North American price high for this year was reached back in May, but since then prices have continued to climb, with a new peak being reached in the middle of June - a trajectory that looks set to continue.
“For flights taking off in Europe, the increase in airfares continued from May into June and look also set to continue for summer travellers. Whilst ticket prices have been gradually falling for decades as volumes have risen, they are rising once again. That said, it is important to note that European prices still remain below the pre-pandemic levels.”
