Aeroflot acquires 10 B777 from an Irish lessor

Aeroflot, has acquired 10 stranded Boeing 777 aircraft from Irish leasing companies, the airline confirmed to Russian new agency TASS in the last week of December 2022.

The statement read: “The 10 Boeing 777-300ERs which had been under financial lease from an Irish leasing business between 2013 and 2014, were recently acquired by the airline located in Moscow.”

Going ahead, Aeroflot also said that the airline will continue to work on further implementation of transactions for the purchase of aircraft in order to maintain the current fleet of foreign-made aircraft in operation and expand the possibility of their operation.

Although Aeroflot did not specify the name of the lessor, the airline reaffirmed in its statement that the purchase was completed following all the relevant permits from Russian and foreign regulators.

The European Union amended sanctions in April that would allow lessors to sell aircraft in Russia to local carriers and allow payments to be accepted from Russian companies. Aeroflot bought eight A330s in May from foreign lessors.
