Irish airline Aer Lingus has refused further talks with its cabin crew members and its union Impact even though industrial action resulted in the airline canceling flights this week.
Micheal Grealy, chief human resources director at the airline, stated to state broadcaster RTE that there was no “scope for further talks at this particular point in time" with Impact, because he said "any efforts to engage in extra conciliatory activity amounts to a cynical attempt to backtrack on the 850 hours agreement."
The Irish carrier raised the number of annual flight hours to 850 from 830 as part of cost-cutting measures to turn the airline to profit. Some 100 cabin crew out of more than 800 staff refused to work the new hours and has asked the Labour Court to intervene in the dispute.
