Aer Lingus in talks to avert strike

Siptu shop stewards and representatives at Aer Lingus are meeting to discuss ways to avert industrial action on Monday. The talks revolve around possible solutions to resolving €748 million deficit at the pension scheme at the airline and the Dublin Airport Authority. Siptu shop stewards has declined to withdraw strike notice served on Aer Lingus in the meantime.

In particular the union was opposed to providing new productivity measures to offset the cost of investment by Aer Lingus in the pension scheme to deal with the deficit.

Ibec and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions have written to Siptu to offer assistance to the parties to find an acceptable solution and encouraging them to utilise the State's industrial relations machinery.
