Following its planned merger with Asiana Airlines, Korean Air confirmed to Reuters on December 3, 2024, that its own low cost carrier Jin Air will be combined with Asiana's low cost carriers Air Busan and Air Seoul. The three LCCs will operate under the single Jin Air brand, a Korean Air spokesperson told Reuters.
The merger had received final approval from the US Department of Justice (DOJ) - according to local media reports - on the same day.
The approval marks the end of four years wait after the acquisition was first announced in November 2020, as well as the 14th and final regulatory approval necessary for the deal.
The DOJ reportedly indicated it would not file an antitrust lawsuit, which is considered an approval for the merger.
