AA REPLACES SEVEN MAINTENANCE EXECS

A report to the US Congress has detailed that American Airlines has replaced at least seven senior-level maintenance executives in the past year following a federal investigation of the airline’s maintenance practices.

Some four of the seven executives to be replaced were named by whistleblowers following an investigation into the airline’s maintenance department although the official report does not assign blame to any individual.

In a statement, American Airlines said: “[American Airlines] has a long history of maintaining its aircraft to the highest standards and working closely with the FAA to address any potential safety issues, and we will continue to do so. While the circumstances highlighted by the Special Counsel occurred more than two years ago, we remain committed to adhering to the rigorous standards and policies we have in place. We take these matters extremely seriously for our customers, employees and the communities we serve.”
