Two 747 flying testbeds, stationed in Mirabel, will be used to test the operating safety and efficiency of most of Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines.
The flight test centre includes an assembly area for Pratt & Whitney's new high-efficiency geared turbofan, which will power Bombardier CSeries, the new Mitsubishi regional jet, the Russian Irkut narrowbody airliner and possibly re-engined versions A320s and 737NGs.
The PW&C flight test centre and its 747s will handle all Pratt & Whitney engines from 15,000 lbs. up to 90,000 lbs. thrust. That includes PW&C's new PW800 aimed at the large business jet market and turboprops.
